The manufacturing process of steel balls is a key factor in determining their service life. If there are defects during the ball surface or internal manufacturing, such as shrinkage, cracks, intracrystalline and so on, this will not only reduce the performance of steel  balls, or even cause steel balls broken.

The reasonable forging, casting and heat treatment process must be drawn up in the production of steel balls. For example, for the high chromium cast iron ball, it should be poured and using the cold iron rationally, and controlled the casting temperature and other measures strictly. In this way, steel balls will get a good solidification sequence and filling conditions in the casting and get a dense internal organization, then weaken the phenomenon of coarse grain. The heat treatment process of steel balls determines the realization of its mechanical properties and the distribution of carbides. The composition of steel balls contains a certain amount of chromium and other alloying elements, so how to make these alloying elements forming a hard spot carbide play a full role is a factor to develop a heat treatment process to consider.

Materials of wear-resistant steel balls are commonly low-carbon alloy, high manganese steel, high chromium cast iron and high carbon high manganese alloy steel.

The low-carbon alloy steel ball has a good toughness and reasonable price, and its service life enhance more than 1 times than the low-chromium cast ball.

The high manganese steel has the good toughness, its specific performance in the Ai surface layer can quickly produce hardening. The work hardening index is 5-7 times higher than other materials, it can effectively improve the wear resistance. But the premise is under the effect of the larger impact or contact stress and it can be achieved.

High-chromium cast iron is a wear-resistant material with excellent anti-wear properties.

High-carbon high-manganese alloy steel is the alloy structural steel mainly contains chromium, molybdenum and other elements. And it has high hardness and good toughness.
